The VoltShelf rear storage cover for your Chevrolet Volt will add a finishing touch to the cargo area of your car, security for your important items stored in the rear, and greatly quiet noise coming from the rear of the car. All VoltShelf models lift up automatically when you open the trunk. Installation is easy and complete, illustrated directions are included. The smaller panel, the RSP (Rear Seat Panel) comes with every VS g1.2 kit (This is not needed for Gen 2 cars.) It simply slips into place and is held there by the VoltShelf. From start to finish, installation of the entire kit should only take you about 5 minutes using common tools. All VoltShelves ship with all needed parts and complete installation instructions. Installation is simple, no holes to drill, no brackets to screw into the car, nothing to assemble. Installation time is about 5 minutes for most folks and requires no tools or permanent modifications to the car.
The VoltShelf cuts the trunk area off from the rest of the car, reducing the heated and cooled apace of the cabin and saving you energy. It won't double your range, but every little bit can make a difference. Carry a spare tire? Compact or full size, it just disappears under the VoltShelf. (But PLEASE, securely fasten the spare and jack in the trunk!)
The VoltShelf can hold up to 20 pounds, but it is not recommended that items be left on it while driving. These can be thrown in the event of an accident or heavy braking, resulting in potential injury to the occupants of the car. Also, remember that when the lift gate is opened, the shelf will rise at an angle causing items on the shelf to tip, fall, or spill.
When you don’t need it or when you need to carry larger items in the back of your Volt, the straps simply unhook and the VoltShelf can be stored on the floor of your car. The VS g2.2 will automatically fold down on top of the rear seats when you lower them. The VS g1.2 can be set up to do the same on request.
The versatility of the VoltShelf is limited only by your creativity. One owner reports that he uses his VoltShelf as a table while camping in the rear of his Volt! It is the perfect height and size. And the Rear Seat Panel sitting on a milk crate covers the rear foot well so you can roll your sleeping bag and pads out and get a good night's sleep.
